Melow is a Series A fintech building an AI-native platform for financial operations, helping institutions automate complex, data-heavy workflows. This Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) role is critical for driving customer success and revenue by embedding with clients, building production-grade data pipelines and integrations, and closing deals with effective PoCs. You are hiring a product-focused engineer who owns a customer's outcome, not just a feature.

Candidate Overview
The ideal candidate is a senior-level (5+ YOE) product engineer with deep, hands-on experience in Python, SQL, and data architecture (DWH, ETL, pipelines). They must have a proven track record working with data at scale (e.g., batch processing, analytics), not just request-response APIs. Crucially, they must be client-facing, capable of independently owning an enterprise customer relationship from PoC to ROI, and demonstrate an ownership mindset rather than a temporary consultant or sales-only approach. Without this combination of deep data skills, customer-facing maturity, and end-to-end ownership, do not proceed.

Green Flags
Experience at data-first companies like Palantir, Databricks, Snowflake, or dbt Labs.
Previous titles include 'Forward Deployed Engineer', 'Solutions Engineer', or 'Customer Engineer' at a high-growth AI/data startup.
Founder or founding engineer experience, especially building and selling data/AI tools.
Verifiable experience with modern data stacks (Databricks, Spark, Snowflake) and applied AI/LLM tools (LangChain, LangGraph, RAG, vector DBs).
A 'big + small' career path, combining experience at a large, credible enterprise with the autonomy of a startup.
Red Flags
Self-identifies as a 'pure backend engineer' or has a profile focused exclusively on application/backend development.
Primary tech stack is Java, .NET, or C#.
Background is in software houses, dev shops, or outsourcing firms (indicates lack of end-to-end product ownership).
Experience is limited to legacy BI (Power BI, Tableau) or no-code tools (Alteryx, n8n).
Profile is 'broad but not deep'—lacks depth in core data engineering or AI systems.
Acts purely as a consultant, solutions architect, or sales engineer who only advises or designs without building and owning the production outcome.
Located outside of European timezones.
Salary expectations are significantly above the location-based bands (e.g., >€110k for Spain/Portugal/Italy).
